Ministry Highlight: St. John’s Preschool

A ministry highlight from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Springfield:

The Evangelical Lutheran Education Association (ELEA) sponsored “Lutheran Schools Week” in March. Children at St. John’s Lutheran Preschool in Springfield celebrated with dress up theme days, special snacks, daily chapel time, a mission project, and a visit and photo-op with a Highland calf.

Each day at chapel we read a different Bible story that went with the theme of “On the Road.” We sang “We Are Marching in the Light of God” and also learned a special action song to go with the theme as well.

We hunted around the classrooms for our snack of “manna” (soup crackers), made crowns to celebrate that Jesus is our King, and created empty tombs out of playdough. Our mission project collected several hundred items for the Grace Lutheran Food Pantry.

Our dress-up themes included wearing the color of our classrooms, our pajamas, crazy socks, and shirts showing our favorite mode of transportation or vacation destination. Children each decorated a craft person to adorn the “road” on the wall in our hallway.

The highlight of the week was helping to name, and then getting to meet Daisy, the Highland calf.

We had so much fun celebrating our Lutheran school and learning about God’s love!
