In Jacksonville, Illinois, children from Bright Beginnings Daycare have formed a Kindness Club to make a difference in the community. Crystal Fry, the director of Bright Beginnings is a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and shared it with Jean and Ralph Welch, members of Faith Lutheran Church who participated in the Fresh Expressions workshop in our synod last year. When they heard about the Kindness Club, Jean said, “It’s a great way to take the church to the community through the children.”
They donated $100, and the children decided to split it between two organizations. The New Directions homeless shelter used their portion to provide birthday parties for people who stay there, giving them some joy and happiness. The Foster Care Closet used their portion to provide supplies to foster children and families in the community.
To celebrate, the Kindness Club had a party where Jean, Ralph, and the children painted rocks to make a kindness caterpillar.
