“Classrooms and lab! Loud boiling test tubes!
Sing to the Lord a new song!
Athlete and band! Loud cheering people!
Sing to the Lord a new song!” (ELW #731)
The Synod Council of our Central/Southern Illinois Synod has designated Sunday, February 23, as ELCA Campus Ministry Sunday. Here in Central/Southern Illinois, we have active ELCA Campus Ministries at three of our college campuses:
Agape Lutheran Campus Ministry
Illinois State University, Normal
Pastor Matthew Geerdes
St. Andrew’s Lutheran Campus Ministry
University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana
Pastor Jon Fry
Epiphany Lutheran Church
Southern Illinois University, Carbondale
Pastor Brian Coffey
These campus ministries provide vital, Christ-centered, grace-filled faith formation with students during a critical time in their lives. As they do, they are increasingly dependent upon the strong financial support of our synod and our communities of disciples. As an alumnus of the ministry of St. Andrew’s at the U of I, I know first-hand the profound impact campus ministry on students as they grow and develop into leaders in our church.
There are several resources developed by Pastor Jon Fry for your consideration, including a cover letter, bulletin inserts, and worship suggestions.
Thank you in advance as, together, we celebrate ELCA Campus Ministry and live out our shared mission: Nurturing communities of disciples, equipped for Christ’s mission.
