The Gospel of John continues to challenge its readers with a portrait of Jesus that is very different from Matthew, Mark, and Luke. With a supplemental role in the Revised Common Lectionary, John's perspectives are often overlooked and underrated in the preaching and teaching of the church. This course will focus on the particular voice of the Fourth Gospel, with special attention to its theological themes and their contribution to the theological imagination of the church. Special attention will be given to homiletical strategies so that preachers will have a better understanding of how to convey this unique voice in the canon.

This 24-hour retreat is also designed as a Spiritual retreat and will include worship and fellowship time as well. It is recommended that participants obtain and begin to read through Dr. Lewis’ Commentary on the Gospel of John: Fortress Biblical Commentaries – John. It is published by Fortress Press.
