Be Like Jesus Junior Servant Day
The Northern Conference Youth Board hosted a Be Like Jesus junior servant day for 1st through 3rd graders at Salem Lutheran in Peoria on Saturday, November 3.
24 children from six congregations participated in the event along with another 15 junior and senior high small group leaders from a variety of congregations. The day was filled with music, crafts, and friend-making in addition to 3 hands-on service learning rotations. In one rotation children filled 450 nutritional snack packs for students at two public schools to be sure kids have enough to eat on an upcoming 3-day weekend. In another they learned about the work done through the Center for Prevention of Abuse, made Hug Cards, packed and prayed over pillows, pajamas and teddy bears that had been collected in advance for the Center. And in the third rotation they learned about the big word “generosity,” played “Save, Spend, Share Price is Right” and received piggy banks of their very own from Thrivent.
It was a great day!
