A New Synod Name?
The name “Central/Southern Illinois Synod” tends to mis-remembered and garner some confusion about where our synod is. In an effort to be clearer about our location, the synod council is exploring a new synod name. Submissions were received at the Synod Assembly in June, and the synod council is continuing to receive name suggestions until January 10, 2020. If the council decides to pursue a name change, the Synod Assembly would need to vote on the change at two assemblies, and then it would need to be approved at the Churchwide Assembly in 2022.
A new synod name should say something about where we are located to others across the ELCA. Ideally, it would be easy to say, easy to spell, easy to remember, visual, appropriate for our context, and generate positive emotion.

Our 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly ended this past Saturday. There is much to report from the Assembly. Look forward to this in our synod newsletter coming out next week or go to the ELCA website now.
